Wu Long Slot
The developers at Playtech decided to take players down a path that many other developers have already explored, namely a path that goes back through time and end in Ancient China.
Wu Long is Playtech’s take on the popular theme, and this video slot game is focused on a dragon character that brings good luck and, hopefully, big wins along with it.
So if you are in the mood for yet another trip to the great empire in the East, stay with us as read our full review of Wu Long – you might learn how to tame the mighty dragon along the way.
New Year Celebrations
Wu Long takes place during the Chinese New Year celebrations, which means that players are in for a real party.
The reels are encased with the shadow of a giant temple, with colourful fireworks exploding in the background and lighting up the skies. The overall colour scheme is deep purple and blue, and the result is a bit less flamboyant than most Chinese-themed slot games.
The relatively low-key atmosphere is reflected by the quiet background music and sound effects. In a nutshell, Wu Long does not really strike the eye with its universe, while still being of decent quality.
Simple Wu Long
Wu Long offers an easy gameplay that players will have no difficulty wrapping their heads around.
The five spinning reels of the game display three symbols each, with 25 paylines in total running across the screen in all directions. Your goal is to land winning combinations of symbols on activated paylines in order to trigger their corresponding cash prize. Use the (+) and (-) buttons in the command bar below the reels to activate paylines and choose your bet size. A bigger bet also means bigger potential rewards, so keep that in mind while setting up your next game. Hit Spin to start up the reels, or Bet Max to go all-in with a single click and take a risk to hit the jackpot.
Click the Autoplay button to let the game follow its own course. The reels will spin on their own and place your bet until you decide to come back to regular mode. Whatever you decide, your winnings will add up and automatically transfer to your personal stash as you go. Turbo Mode lets the reels spin even faster, if you really cannot wait to see how the symbols line up.
What’s on the Reels
The reel symbols of Wu Long follow a classic pattern and are not very original for experienced players.
The first group contains the Jack, Queen, King and Ace. These golden symbols, inspired by playing cards, are the most frequent in Wu Long. On the other hand, they have very low payouts.
The rest of the menu contains a Paper Lantern, a set of Fireworks, Cymbals, Drums, two Chinese Women wielding folding fans and the majestic Entrance Gate to the temple. Although less common, these symbols bring about much more interesting rewards, so it might be a good idea to look out for them throughout your gaming session.
A Little Luck will Bring you Free Games
In Wu Long, the Dragon is a symbol of luck and prosperity. On the reels, it will bring you many Free Spins to give you an extra chance at winning big, at no cost.
All you need to do is land Dragon symbols anywhere on the reels. The Dragon is indeed a Scatter, which means that you do not have to worry about paylines when it comes to it.
Landing a single Dragon slowing increases the game Multiplier up to x6, two Dragons do the same with two Free Spins on top. From three Dragons, the Multiplier is automatically set on x6. You win four, eight and up to twelve Free Spins with three, four and five Dragons on the reels, respectively.
Déjà Vu with Wu
Wu Long will give most players a strong feeling of déjà vu, especially if you have already played video slot games with a strong Chinese theme. The atmosphere and graphics are decent but do not bring much originality to the table, despite the developers’ efforts.
This being said, Wu Long compensates for that with an easy and rewarding Bonus feature that starts paying off when just a single Dragon appears anywhere on the reels. The absence of Wilds is overshadowed by this entertaining and potentially very rewarding way to throw Free Spins and Multipliers together into the mix.
