To begin with, we struggled to spot the theme here but with some digging we discovered this one is aimed at bikers, which would explain the pig in a helmet, otherwise known as a ‘road hog’. The pig is accompanied by a number of fast food symbols such as hotdogs, pancakes and fried eggs, a speedometer and a flaming biker.
The background of all this is a mixture of bright blues, which seems to an ever-popular colour for traditional slot games. Suitably for the biker theme, the sound effects here are some chords of good old rock and roll, interspersed with the sound of revving engines. These accompany winning combinations but as this is a traditional style slot, there is no full soundtrack. This is a truly old school American theme; motorbikes, fast food and rock and roll.
The Technical Stuff
This 5 reel, 9 payline game was launched in 2013 for mobile and can be played using coin values from 0.25 and 2.0, with a maximum bet of 2.25. The maximum winnings here are 10,000 coins, which is a huge jackpot compared to some of the other traditional style slot and video slots so plenty to play for here.
The Wild here is the ‘Wild Heart’ symbol, very appropriately, which looks like a heart tattoo with both wings and an exhaust pipe. It can appear on reels 2, 3 or 4 and will substitute for any other symbol apart from the Scatter, to complete a winning combination. There are dozens of potential winning combinations here so the Wild will find plenty of opportunities to score you a win.
The Scatter symbol is the engine block icon and it crops up very regularly, with any scatter win being multiplied by the total number of coins wagered. If you score another winning payline at the same time as a scatter win, you’ll also reap the rewards from that.
Rev Your Engine for Some Roaring Good Gaming
If you like traditional slots with better graphics, all things American biker and playing on your mobile then this could be a game for you. All the fast food could reward you with some equally fast payouts and you can roar on down the road to try and hit that big jackpot. This is all souped up with the rock and roll soundtrack and the sounds of revving engines, which serve to egg you on for a win. The colours are bright, the symbols are eye-catching but this game doesn’t quite seem to justify its video slot category.
This game bears some differences in layout which make it very clearly a slot designed for mobile gaming, with the bet and spin buttons being positioned to the right of the game rather than the left, making them easier to use on mobile devices. The reels are also unusually small to suit the dimensions. We can see the theme proving popular but in all honesty we can’t see this game becoming anyone’s favourite; despite being a video slot it’s simply too short on features to keep you playing for any great length of time. We would describe this as a traditional slot with boosted graphics rather than a full video slot.
Another criticism of Reel Thunder concerns the expense, with coin values of 2.25, 4.50, 9.0 and 18.0 ($) which makes this a fairly expensive game to play, therefore potentially putting off new players. You’d have to be a seasoned player and likely an afficianado of Microgaming slots to want to risk so much on this game.
Regardless of the negatives, this a well themed traditional slot, with the added high tech graphics of a video slot and the opportunity to play via mobile device.
