They are back, the mad monarchs of the Reel King Series which, in addition to the original game, also comprises Reel King Potty, and the 4 Reel King games. Is another too much of a good thing? Well, it’s a valid question, but in these games defense, each one does do things slightly differently, all making use of the reel king mini game in a separate secondary bonus which varies from game to game.
You might have guessed from the title that the primary draw on this game is the free spins round, with 10 of them available. Novomatic well know that their games are most beloved in the UK casinos, and also that UK players tend to want a good spins round! Theme
As with the other games the jovial cartoon style kings all hold their own portable slot machine and will drop in at any time to play a side game. Outside of them, it’s just another generic Novomatic background and reels sadly, although, the game does have one or two bespoke audio effects which we like and would encourage more of for future titles. Novomatic really need to start upping their game when it comes to theme, the occasional modern title like Chicago just isn’t going to be enough otherwise to keep up with the likes of NetEnt, Betsoft & iSoftbet.
That isn’t to say the theme doesn’t have some redeeming features, the characters themselves are slot player favourites and remake or not, it’s good to see them get a little graphics update and a few more sound effects, we just feel it could have been a little more.
Gameplay & Features
One area where these regents aren’t letting you down is with the game play and high pay out potential on Reel Kings Free Spin Frenzy. It is, in fact, royally rewarding in every sense. There’s 20 pay-lines which are adjustable and a bet range of 0.40 to 100.00 so plenty of choice for both low stakes players and high rollers alike. There are eight high pay symbols on the slot including a fixed wild and just like with the other Reel King games, the crowned and moustachioed funny man can drop in at any time with one of three 777 symbol jackpots and one extra for three mixed.
The spins rounds itself takes place on a separate reel and all symbols apart from the stacked scatter are removed. Now, instead of triggering the spins round, each time one lands on the reel the king will spin his handheld mini slot for one of the 777 prizes he holds. This makes it a slightly unique spins session, you won’t see many wins, but the ones you do are likely to be very rewarding.
Summary
The new Reel Kings game stands out from the more formulaic Novomatic slots without quite having the panache of their top video slots. It also sits a little apart for having higher volatility, though thankfully it loses none of the pay-out potential which Novomatic games are known for in the process thanks to a generous RTP. Overall, we think this is a decent addition to the range and we’d like to see it introduced as a real cash slot sooner rather than later.
