The goblin’s lair
Goblins get a bit of a bad reputation from books, films and TV, renowned for their ugly looks, wicked ways and smelly abodes. However, if this slot machine is anything to go by, then perhaps goblins aren’t all that bad. That is because this game features a rather harmless looking goblin character, whose droopy face, reading glasses, cosy jumper and worn out slippers make him look about as threatening as the lovely old man who lives down the road.

Cartoon spins
As far as appearances go, this goblin themed slot machine could be a lot less pleasant to look at, especially considering the gruesome nature of the theme. The aesthetic is colourful and bright while cartoon symbols are used to give the game a novelty edge. That said, the game does appear to be a bit out-dated in design terms when compared to similarly themed slot machines such as Betsoft’s Greedy Goblins.
Two spins for one wager
Even though Goblin’s Cave isn’t the most innovative of slot machines when it comes to appearances, it does throw up some unique and interesting gameplay for spinners to enjoy. That is because this 3-reel, 3-payline classic slot gives players two spins for every stake that is placed, with the opportunity to hold symbols upon the reels for the second spin to improve winning chances.
Each time that a player hits the “Spin” button, only the lowermost horizontal reel positions will be spun on each reel. This could potentially land a winning sequence of symbols, in which case, players simply have to spin again to fill the other two paylines will the same winning combination. However, should the initial spin not bear any prizes, then spinners can elect to “Hold” any of the icons on the lower most payline across all three vertical reels. This makes for a better chance of a successful prize on the second spin since on the non-held reels will be spun.
Place your stakes
There is a 3×3 reel grid upon which players can place 3 sets of line bets to account for the 3 horizontal paylines. Each line bet can consist of 1 to 5 coins of the following values 0.01, 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1.00, 2.00 and 5.00. So, effectively, players can play will maximum line bets of 25 credits for a total possible bet per game of 75 credits.
Anytime that a combination of prize-winning symbols are lined up on those horizontal paylines, a multiplier will be awarded to the value of the bet per line. The smallest line bet multiplier is a 1x prize for three matching coins, a single ruby jewel will award a 2x and two ruby jewels will give a 5x line bet multiplier. Players will receive a 2x win with any three ring icons, while three matching green, purple and red rings will pay 5x, 10x and 15x line bet prizes respectively.
A set of any three teapots will apply a 5x multiplier to the line bet, while three of the same green teapots, blue teapots and red teapots pay 20x, 35x and 50x respectively. Three crowns of any colour will award a 20x prize with three green crowns go for 75x, three purple crowns go for 100x and three red crowns go for 125x.
The most rewarding combination of all is three red ruby jewels which will award a line bet multiplier of 150x.
Not only are those red rubies the most lucrative icons on the reels but they also have wild symbol properties, meaning that they will substitute all other icons to complete line wins.
A gruesome, yet fun game
In all honesty, there are bound to be plenty more goblin themed games out there with slimier graphics, uglier characters and more bounteous treasure hoards. However, if you are a fan of 3-reel retro slots, or maybe you just want to try something a bit different, then Goblin’s Cave by Playtech is well worth a spin or two.
