Funky Fruits Farm
Those funky fruit are at it again. Jiving. Grooving. Generally being funky. And now they’re on a farm. Funky Fruits Farm is a 3D video slot from games developer Playtech.
The cheery and colourful casino slot takes you out of the city and drops you in rural Nowheresville, the location of Funky Fruits Farm, where fruit symbols funk it up and the farmer struggles to get any work done. The slot has five reels and 20 paylines, and includes scatters, stacked wilds and free spins bonuses. The maximum jackpot is 10,000 coins, and the RTP is 92.07%.
Frolics on the farm
Funky Fruits Farm gets under way with a cute little intro video showing the watermelon and orange running away from the farmer, who passes on his tractor. Then it’s game time. The 5×3 reel grid is designed so that all 15 symbols occupy a different wooden packing crate, with the game logo sitting above the reels. The grid sits in the foreground of a farm, with water towers and barns in the background under a blue sky, across which white clouds scroll from right to left. Every now and then the clumsy farmer sprints across the screen, his mini tractor trailing in his wake. The graphics are very sharp and there’s a decidedly fun element to things: think Chicken Run from Aardman Animations.
You’ll find all the usual controls ranged along the bottom of the screen. Use the + and – arrows to determine the number of lines you wish to play, from one to 20, and decide on a line bet, which goes from 0.01 to 1. The maximum bet per spin, therefore, is 20. The game also features an autoplay mode, which lets you play 10, 25, 50 or 99 successive spins. You can set autoplay to continue uninterrupted until you hit a special feature, i.e. a round of free spins.
Playing the game
Regarding the rules of the game, they’re simple: only the highest win is paid per line, and win combinations form left to right only, except in the case of the scatter, which pays any. Payline wins are multiplied by the line bet and malfunctions void all plays.
The symbols in Funky Fruits Farm are very cute. They include a dungaree-clad, moustachioed farmer chewing a stalk of wheatgrass, a grumbling lemon, a grinning orange, two cherries, a gormless pineapple and a watermelon. The latter two symbols work on an ‘of a kind’ principle, as do the lemon and orange. There are also several low-value playing cards: 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace.
There’s a wild symbol, which is stacked on all reels and can appear on the reels during the base game and bonus round. The wild is able to replace all others in the game except the farmer, who is the scatter, and it also doubles wins in which it is involved. Moreover, there are separate pay-outs for two or more wilds on an active line. Indeed, you can win 10 for two, 250 for three, 2,500 for four and the 10,000 top prize for five on the trot.
When you hit a winning combo of fruit, said fruit will animate in some way to reflect its personality. The grumpy lemon, for instance, glowers at you and snorts with derision. The cheery farmer doffs his cap and ecstatically celebrates your win.
Funky Fruits bonus
The farmer is associated with some fairly modest pay-outs – unless you land five, that is, in which case the sum is 500. However, the scatter is the gateway to the Funky Fruits Bonus. Three or more scatters triggers the bonus, during which you’ll be awarded eight free games with a x2 multiplier. Five fruit icons will appear on the next screen, each of them standing for either seven, ten or 15 additional free games, or a multiplier of x5 or x8. Select two of the fruit by clicking one at a time to add more free games to the initial eight, to raise the multiplier or both. Potentially, you can win as many as 33 free spins or a multiplier of up to x15. Extra free games can be won infinitely.
What the funk
Funky Fruits Farm is an entertaining video slot – and that’s not something you can’t say about all fruit-themed games. This one gets away with the tired theme because the fruit are so damn cute, and because the game includes wilds, scatters, free spins and multipliers. Give it a go.
