Casino pair calling for Scotland to allow their properties to re-open

In Scotland and Grosvenor Casinos has reportedly teamed up with Genting Casinos UK Limited in order to launch a campaign that is seeking to pressure the local government into allowing casinos recently shuttered as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic to re-open.

According to a report from G3Newswire, Scotland is home to 14 casinos that were ordered to close from October 9 as the number of coronavirus infections rose by well over 600% month-on-month to hit 1,246. Although this daily tally now stands at around 1,260, the source detailed that the two operators are nevertheless hoping that their The Chips Are Down – Save Our Casinos, Save Our Jobs drive will sway politicians into allowing their venues to re-open.

Extensive estates:

Grosvenor Casinos is responsible for five casinos in Scotland including Glasgow’s Grosvenor Casino Merchant City while Genting Casinos UK Limited runs three such properties encompassing Genting Casino York Place, Genting Casino Glasgow and Genting Casino Fountain Park. The pair are reportedly arguing that the closure of these venues has had a negative impact on those who enjoy using them as a community hub while furthermore adversely effecting local suppliers.

Political pressure:

Scotland is home to some 5.4 million people and the two operators are reportedly asserting that the continued closure of their casinos could also lead to job losses and greatly affect a wider economy that each year benefits to the tune of millions of dollars. As such and The Chips Are Down – Save Our Casinos, Save Our Jobs campaign is purportedly encouraging the public to send an e-mail to the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, asking that gambling-friendly venues be immediately allowed to re-open.

Grosvenor Casinos is a brand of London-listed Rank Group and has long been a critic of casino lockdowns as a way to help the United Kingdom defeat the coronavirus pandemic. For its part and Genting Casinos UK Limited is a subsidiary of giant Asian operator Genting Malaysia Berhad and reportedly believes that its industry is being unfairly targeted after asserting that it has worked hard to ensure all of its venues comply with the latest social distancing and health regulations.

Considered criticism:

Despite welcoming some 30,000 people through their doors up to the initiation of the most recent lockdown, Genting Casinos UK Limited and Grosvenor Casinos reportedly proclaimed that there has not been a single instance of coronavirus transmission recorded in one of their Scottish venues. In addition, the pair purportedly pronounced that 87% of their patrons say that they feel safer in a casino than in any other entertainment facility with last month’s closure order simply an arbitrary move.
